Blog 8 Authorship

Image
In my opinion authorship is the creator of the ideas that are being communicated in the published text. The author can determined by simply reading the text and identifying whose ideas are being communicated. One question I had was what are the themes of the Book of Margery and also what was the historical context of the society Margery lived in. I agree with the fact Margery should be view as the author. This is because on page 6 of the reading, there is a paragraph which details the logical reasoning used: Margery, in her flesh and blood, creates Margery the implied author who creates Margery the character, hence Margery is preserved. Although the narrative may have been altered by the means of dialogism affecting the perspective, including the use of the word "creature" to describe Margery, the character and majority of the story originates from Margery's conception of these thoughts. Therefore, Margery is assumed to be an author even with the priests who have altered ...

One question I had was when is it more useful to use a visual argument as opposed to a verbal one? Another one I had was when would a more verbal central argument be more effective? In this political cartoon, there is a poster with writing on it and in front of it are 4 children who look obese. In the US, the cultural context of this political cartoon is that there is a child obesity problem that is prevalent. In another country this message would not make as much sense especially also because of the "recruitment" poster being American in originality. The use of this figure obviously makes the point that the government wants people to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. Ironically, the kids who are standing right in front of the poster are eating a corndog and drinking a high sugar content soft drink. The poster alone with the words is not enough to convey the message, but the idle of the children in reaction to the poster shows how many children have still ignored ...

Blog 6 Response to "The Ruin" Poem

Image
I choose the first image because it shows how with time passing, all things come to an end. In the poem, the society described is originally illustrious, but it eventually ends. This poem is trying to convey that all good things never last for forever and humans should learn to accept that. This mentality is conveyed in the second pic as it shows a group of people united regardless of the color or personality. In the poem, it is accepted that all civilizations do not last forever, whether it is due to terrorism or natural disasters. The poem's tone isn't meant to evoke feelings for sympathy for those who suffered during the fall of the buildings, but rather learn to accept those disasters and move on. This emotion is also conveyed in the third image I selected as I felt this poem is not meant to make the reader feel extremely depressed or sad for a long period of time, but is rather focused on the good memories the inhabitants had, and shows that it was a good time while it...

BUZZ Sign This first image is located outside of the Student Center. The fact that it says “Welcome Back,” shows that the image is targeted at returning students. It is meant to appeal to students in that it imitates the style of a meme. In reality, many students will actually find it funny for the fact that someone is trying to impress them with the meme rather than laugh at the actual image itself. The fact that it is located right outside the student center shows that GT wants all its students to feel welcome. The message is clear and simple, but it could accomplish its purpose better. WREK Radio Sign This second image was taken at one of the corners of Tech Green. This sign is meant to have a professional style, showcasing the WREK radio station. It says it is celebrating 50 years of the radio in 2018, meant to relay the message that the radio is professional and successful. This is meant for anyone, and it hopes to bring in more people to listen to the intended radio st...

One question I had in mind would be what would be the ideal way for writing instruction to be successful? Can the exact same principle be applied in other areas of learning/ instruction? I agree with Reynolds argument that writing instruction should be changed to reflect the changes in the geographical identities of students. For example, the article proves through a study of students that they know more than they think they do about writing, but rather we haven't provoked their "spatial imaginations". In this age where technology and screens dominant nearly all aspects of a student's life nowadays, exploring the outdoors, visiting places that have not been visited before, and dwelling can trigger a student's ability to communicate effectively. Being constrained to sitting in only a classroom or on the internet will diminish a student's analytical abilities, so therefore time should be kept aside for the student to walk around to put themselves in a differe...

Blog 3 Response to Murphy Reading

Why did it take several hundreds of years for the Greeks to realize the importance of writing? Wouldn't relying on oral communication only inevitably cause disagreements and disparities in the way it was taught to the future generation of students? It was difficult to understand the idea of "rhetoric" in the ancient societies. Also I was curious of Plato's passion for oral communication. The authors argument is that society should understand how writing has evolved as a technology since Greek society because the history of writing is just as important as the instruction of writing itself. I agree with this statement because it is important to have a holistic view of what society used to be like without writing. The change from teaching only nobles to write to standardizing the system so all classes could learn to write shows how society has evolved from one that is more aristocratic to one that is concerned about the education of everyone. This principle is still rele...
